It’s hard to believe there’s only two people on stage as Catriona McKay and Chris Stout weave their way between glorious soundscapes and music of breathtaking simplicity. Chris and Catriona have taken these most traditional of instruments and catapulted them into the contemporary world of music making inspired by the traditional music of Shetland and Scotland.
To remain true to their traditional roots Chris and Catriona have teamed up with the legend that is Seamus Begley from the West Kerry Gaeltacht. They were drawn to his energetic, spontaneous accordion playing and his singing of great depth and sheer beauty. Séamus Begley is one of the most popular Irish traditional musicians, who has a unique style and is considered by many to be one of the finest players of the dance music of West Kerry.
They recorded an album and toured Ireland in Autumn 2014 with the help of Music Network. Their trio CD ‘Begley McKay Stout’ was album of the week in the Irish Times.
